In a July 2026 feature titled “How AI-Native Law Firms Are Rewriting the Rules of Legal Services,” Marks Baughan director Braeden DeWan examined the rise of the AI-native law firm, a category he argues could finally deliver the disruption the legal industry has been predicting for two decades. Landfall IP was named as one of five firms defining the model, described as “a specialized intellectual property firm using AI to supercharge elite patent practitioners.”
Across the firms profiled, DeWan identifies a shared conviction: that the way legal services are delivered and priced has to change once AI can perform much of the work.
For Landfall, DeWan writes, the advantage “runs on practitioner depth,” with elite attorneys working alongside AI agents on every complex patent matter. As an AI-native patent firm, Landfall treats that pairing as core architecture rather than an add-on. Asked about the limits of automation, co-founder Michael Drapkin reframed the question. What looks like a complexity ceiling, he argues, is really a moving floor.
The founders across the piece are consistent that human judgment remains essential, less for legal knowledge than for context, client relationship, and accountability. AI handles what it can, and attorneys are freed to focus on strategy and judgment rather than process.
DeWan’s conclusion is that the firms building in this space “are not disrupting the legal market. They’re defining what legal services look like next.”
For Landfall IP, the recognition affirms a thesis the firm has built around from the start: that an AI-native patent firm can give innovators faster, clearer, and more predictable outcomes without sacrificing the judgment of senior attorneys.
