Anthropic says its AI can “clone enterprise apps like Slack.” That October headline from The Information should make every founder and patent attorney sit up straight.

If AI can replicate complex software quickly, then speed is no longer a moat. Features can be copied. UIs can be cloned. Even workflows can be reverse-engineered.

But patents can’t.

As AI collapses the time it takes to build, the window to protect shrinks. In this new world, your real moat is what can’t be cloned — and that’s where patents suddenly matter more than ever.

Startups that file early and often will own the core inventions behind tomorrow’s wave of AI-generated products.

The takeaway: In the age of instant replication, patent strategy becomes a core business strategy, not an afterthought. File smart, and file fast. Build your patent moat to avoid giving away ideas to be copied.
